Ask the Sahafah24!

Debbie Sessions (that’s me!)

Need costuming advice? Can’t find a clothing item? Frustrated that I couldn’t find vintage inspired clothing for the many vintage themed events my husband and I attend I set out to link to as many clothes as I could find online. Our mission is to connect you to the best vintage inspired clothing and costumes for sale online and teach you about vintage fashion history as worn by everyday people like you.

What are you looking for? Send me an email me directly or comment below and I’ll do my best to point you in the right direction. Sahafah24.info does not sell any clothing directly. By clicking on the picture or title will be redirected to the online retailer selling the item.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Debbie, The Sahafah24

Please read the F.A.Q first before contacting me:

How do I order an item on your website?

Sahafah24.info does not sell any clothing directly. By clicking on the picture or title you will be redirected to the online retailer selling the item. You can then place your order with them.

Questions about Size? Shipping? Returns?

By clicking on one of the clothing pictures you will be re-directed to the online merchant’s website. On the website, you should be able to find information about sizing, buying, shipping, and returns. Each website/store is different so be sure to read about them before you buy.

Will you give me clothing to review, use in a photoshoot, or giveaway as a donation?

See #1. Since I don’t sell any clothing directly which means I can not send out clothing for review. If you truly love the website, please share a link freely.

Where can I buy more clothing?

If you don’t find what you are looking for on Sahafah24.info you can probably find it on one of these two lists:

For women: https://vintagedancer.com/vintage/vintage-inspired-clothing-retro-clothing/

For men: https://vintagedancer.com/vintage/mens-vintage-inspired-clothing/

Do you buy vintage clothing?  How can I sell mine?

Sorry, I do not buy vintage clothing.  Read this article on how to sell your vintage clothing quickly for more ideas.

Who are you? Where are you located?

My name is Debbie Sessions and I am from Reno, Nevada USA. Together with my husband, Oscar, we are the Sahafah24.info team. You can learn more about us, this website, and why the name Sahafah24 here.

How can my business be included? Do you have an Advertising program?

Yes, look at the options here. https://vintagedancer.com/advertise/

Do you accept guest blog posts?

I do not accept guest blog posts or backlink requests.  Sponsored articles are available under the Advertising page linked above.

If you have some skills in researching Fashion history I may have some paid writing assignments for you.

Can I use an image from your website?

Copyright law is a complicated system. While I feel comfortable with the copyright status of all vintage images on the website I can not officially grant you permission to use those images. If it is one of my personal photographs you may request permission.

I can’t find an item I saw on Pinterest?

Yes, that happens when an item sells out. In rare cases, I can still find the item you want on another website. Here is a tip: Right Click the image of the item and select “Search Google for this Image.”  Usually, this brings up other websites that have or still have the item for sale. If all else fails just email me what you are looking for and I’ll see what else I can find for you (a link to a picture helps a lot.)

Where can I shop locally? or Rent costumes?

Start with a google search for “Your city + costumes” or “Your city + vintage clothing” or “your city + thrift store.”  Almost every city has a place to buy or rent costumes or resell vintage and thrift clothing.  If that search doesn’t help you try the phone book, ask friends, or ask the organization hosting the event you are attending. I probably can’t help you more than that unless you live in the Northern Nevada area.

I am located in the UK / Australia/ Non- US Country, can you help me shop?

I have some pages dedicated to only clothing available in the UK: 1920s dresses & shoes, 1930s women’s, 1940s women’s, 1950s women’s, and 1960s women’s.    For Australia/ NZ shoppers I have this page for all decades. Many of these items are included in all other shopping pages. Look at the price to see the currency in your country. Outside of the USA, Canada and UK my resources and knowledge are limited.

Do you have a catalog?

Sorry, I do not have a print catalog. We are an online website only.

Can you help me research fashion history?

I have a lot of vintage catalogs and research materials from the 1900s-1960s. Send me a request with what you are looking for and I will do my best to answer your questions or point you to other research materials. Researchers and students will find this article on “How Do I research Fashion History?” helpful. Some other tips are:

Labels: You can also search and see if anything by the label has sold in the past.

Dating images/items: This  can help you date items up to the 1970s. For men’s clothing, the is the best resource. Search Facebook groups for the decade or style of item (ie vintage shoes, necktie, etc) and join them for even more help.

I can give you an approximate date of a family photograph or clothing item. Due to limited time, I prefer not to help vintage clothing re-sellers identify clothing, labels or value. Thank you for your understanding.

Can you help me with my outfit?

I LOVE helping people find the perfect outfit. Feel free to email or use the contact form below with some details about the outfit you need, your budget, location- especially if you are outside the USA,  gender, size, and event date or need by date. If you have a photo to send please email us at [email protected]

  1. Hey there! I don’t have any questions, I just want to say thank you for running this site! I’m a theatre student currently taking a scenography class and this site has been a very useful resource when focusing on costume designs. So thank you for doing what you do!

    • Thank you for the kind words. I started out in theatre so I am extra happy the site continues to help the theatre world! If you think about it send me your final project. I would love to see what you can up with!

  2. Thank you so much for all these resources! I’m trying to achieve a vintage wardrobe and this site is extremely helpful to me. Keep up the good work 🙂

  3. No questions, but a big THANK YOU for all of the resources you provide. I’m a ballroom dancer and love the Ginger Rogers inspired looks from the 1930s. It’s wonderful to see so many 30s patterns in one place!

  4. Åh, what a wonderful site this is! I´m listening to 1920`s music and browsing your site. If I win the lottery I´ll dress up all my friends with your clothes and throw a big Gatsby-party 🙂

  5. Hello!

When did you start this page/your first post? 🙂

    With best regards,
    Regina Kaasik

    • November 2009 was the start of the entire website. If you cite the website for a school paper you usually cite a specific page and date published which is located at the top of each article.

  6. Hi,

I am trying to do a 20’s look and combining different articles of clothing. I have a slim fit pair of navy dress pants as well as a medium grey pair. I also have a light grey bow tie with white polka dots. I want to go with a plain white dress shirt. I want to complete the look by getting a button down vest, but I am not sure what color or fabric to go with. Can you advise me given the rest of my wardrobe?

    -Thanks, Jason

    • The general advice is to wear a vest one shade lighter than the pants. So for your navy blue pants wear a medium blue vest and with your medium grey pants wear a light grey vest. The fabric should be similar to your pants materiel. I would avoid a tweed or anything with a big texture. You can wear a pattern if you like.

Your outfit sounds like it will look very dapper!

  7. I am looking for a 1940s style dress to wear to the Burial of my Grandparents Ashes,, Since they were from The greatest Generation I thought this would most most fitting.. Since I love the era.. Any suggestions? The dresses I have found on your site from Amazon have had bad reviews. Thanks so much

    • The amazon dresses are shipped direct from China and the sizes runs really small. That’s usually the case with bad reviews. I don’t recommend them for quality but I do have shoppers that need something as cheap as possible. If your budget can do $45 and up look at Unique Vintage:

You can also look at 1980s does 1940s style vintage dress on etsy.com A lot of them look like 1940s but are more affordable then genuine vintage and reproduction dresses.

Most other 1940s style dresses will be around $100 to $200.

      PS. Your email bounced back

  8. Love this webside! It gives me all I want to know about vintage clothing and style! And when I have a question, I get a response almost at once! this helps me a lot! Thank you vintagedancer!

  9. I asked above , not sure I wrote in the right section! I’m looking for the slacks Mary Tyler Moore wore in the dick van dyke show. Also Elizabeth Montgomery in early episodes of bewitched! They say they are cigarette pants. But not like I’ve seen today. They were not so tapered and they zipped on side or back. Went all the way to ankle. My mom had some. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE cannot find them. Or someone who would make them for me! If you know anything,I’d love some feedback! Laura altmann
