I have been receiving requests for help finding vintage boots, especially rain and snow-friendly leather boots with fur trim at the ankle. These type of winter boots, made for walking in wet weather were often overshoes, meaning they slid on over a pair of heels. Some styles laced up while others zipped up to keep the weather out. The fur cuff could fold up to add extra coverage over the calf. This style of overboot was common from the 1920s to the 1950s. When low heel boots became mainstream in the 1960s the need for overshoes was gone. 70s boots returned to Victorian-era roots with lace-up granny boots.
Toher vintage boot styles were rubber galoshes (rain boots), rubber overshoes, stiletto heel ankle boots, pull on motorcycle boots, or tall vintage hiking boots. Learn more about vintage boot history from the 1900s to 70s (with a lot of pictures)
