1940s men were nothing without a hat. Popular men’s 1940s hats were the wool felt Fedora, Trilby, Homburg, and Porkpie. For summer the straw Panama which looked similar to felt versions kept heads cool. Men’s Fedora hats had a wide brim of at least 2 and 5/8 inches and a tall crown with a deep center dent or C shaped crown. The hat band was either black or a darker shade of the hat body with a flat bow on one side and sometimes feathers. They were worn slightly turned down in the front and up at the back. For casual outfits, the flat cap was worn by young men and working classes. Wealthy gangsters preferred the Homburg and young men the flat top Porkpie hat.
