1930s Men’s Dress Shirts
Men’s shirts in the 1930s fit into two categories the dress shirt and the sport shirt. 1930s men’s dress shirts were classic fit button down shirts in a range of bold colors. Yes, white and blue were standard but so were yellow, green, tan, grey and burgundy. They didn’t need to be solid colors either. Most men wore plaids, windowpane, small stripes, checks, and dots. It was a colorful time in men’s fashion vintage dress shirt history. The long spearpoint collar became fashionable at this time as well as button-down collars.
Sport shirts consisted of button down shirts with wide, open collars as well as polo shirts (V neck, lace up or zip up) and bush shirts (similar to Guayabera shirts.) Two-pocket wool solid or plaid check shirts were worn in winter and for outdoor sports. Wool or chambray work shirts were made to be sturdy. Scroll down to see more pictures of men’s 1930s shirts.
